   Excellence in Reading!

Adamsville Elementary is implementing many programs to support reading across the curriculum and reading for fun! Our reading programs are discussed below. At Adamsville Elementary, we do know that avid readers make tomorrow's leaders!

Celebrating Read Across America

cith

Celebrate with the Cat in the Hat. Read all of Dr. Suess's books during March! They are fun and whimsical. A good strategey is to read Horton Hears a Who, Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Lorax. View the movies by the same title and then compare and contrast them to the books. Have your children tell how they are alike and how they are different. Ask them to explain their answers. Have them give reasons why the maker of the movies have included additional scenes, characters, and plots. This will help prepare them for the new Common Core Standards.

Adamsville's Pizza Hut Book-It Program

Children are encouraged to read at least 10 books per month to receive a Pizza Hut certificate redeemable for a personal pan one-topping pizza! The books that students have read should be noted in their book logs.

                            Book of the Month Club

Adamsville will host Book of the Month celebrations once a month for students who have read the pre-selected books of the month. During the celebrations, students will be encouraged to discuss what he or she learned about the book.

Children's Literature For Children Partnership (CLC)
CLC offers readinng programs to third graders. Along with volunteers and the media specialist, fourth graders visit the media center each week to discuss books that they have read. Students are also exposed to various genres of literature. CLC
has also brought many children's authors to Adamsville Elementary.

The Morning Show

The Morning Show is up and runnung! Each morning our students are greeted with Adamsville's News, Weather, Lunch Talk, Wednesday's Wonderful Winners (Caldecott & Newbery Books), Test Taking Strategies, and other pertinent information for our students to start their day off.
