GRIEF COUNSELING
 
Atlanta Public Schools has qualified staff in place in various disciplines to assist students and families who may find themselves struggling to cope during a time of loss or grief. Each school has at least one full-time or part-time Counselor, Nurse, Psychologist, SST/RTI Intervention Specialist, and Social Worker who provides services to students in need.

SOCIAL WORKER SERVICES

The school social worker facilitates the educational and individual potential of students by providing services that promote school success. The school social workers’ primary role is that of a liaison/child advocate. The school social worker collaborates and consults with students, parents, school administrators, faculty, and the community in the identification of family and student concerns.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.

School Psychologists provide a wide variety of services including evaluating children and assisting teachers and administrators by providing information about students’ intellectual, academic, social and emotional needs. Additional
services include counseling and crisis intervention.

SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELING

The School Guidance and Counseling Office provides quality programs for students in grades K-12 in three broad domains: self-knowledge information, educational and occupational information, and career planning information.
