Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Usher-Collier Elementary School. We are very excited to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an enriching and rewarding school year. Our objectives this year are to help better prepare your child for kindergarten emotionally, socially, and academically in a positive and nurturing environment.
We will focus on all the important skills that your child will need for kindergarten and so on. Skill such as:
- Writing and recognition of capital and lower case letters
- Shape, color, and number recognition
- Spelling and writing names
- Patterns and sequencing
- Problem solving
- Development of fine motor skills
We will conduct assessments in the fall and spring so that we can keep track of your child’s progress. This will also give you a chance to see what skills your child could benefit from working on at home as well as in school.
Your child will have their own cubby and homework folder. Please make sure that you check you this folder daily because this will be one of our methods of communication. This folder will also help monitor your child’s progress and help foster a sense of pride in their work. Children often love to share their accomplishments with their families!
We are looking forward to working with your child and we are excited to be a part of their growth and development. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year.
Let’s work together to make this year full of fun, learning, and personal growth for your child!
