Dear Prospective Researcher,
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) encourages meaningful empirical research and offers the services of the Office of Research and Evaluation to facilitate the efforts of researchers in conducting approved studies. Guidelines have been formulated to regulate research activities, to protect the rights of students and staff, and to avoid interference with the ongoing instructional programs in the schools.
The following conditions apply to all research requests:
The review committee meets monthly to review proposals submitted the previous
month. Researchers will receive a decision during the month following their
submission. The committee does not meet in April or May due to state testing.
All research screening application packets must contain all required documents upon submission for review. Researchers must submit a completed APS Research Request Application, letters of support / IRB approval, and supporting instruments. The committee will not review incomplete applications.
The research approval process is specific to traditional schools. If you wish to perform research in a charter school, please contact the school directly.
